Fabric Types

The type of fabric that designs will be printed on can be chosen from 6 different fabric types. All fabric types (except cotton linen) are made of 100% cotton using natural materials.

Plain Weave (medium weight)
Double Gauze (medium weight)
Lawn (light weight)
Cotton Linen(medium weight)
Twill (Mid- heavy weight)
Canvas (Heavy weight)

※For all fabric types other than Canvas, we recommend rinsing them in water before use.

Details of each fabric

1．Plain Weave (100% cotton)

Plain Weave (100% cotton)

・Fabric Content: 100% cotton

Plain weave fabric is flexible with an appropriate amount of tension to it, which gives the fabric a high-quality feel. This also results in the fabric being extremely breathable. The fabric has a normal thickness and is neither too thin nor too thick, making the fabric easy to stitch and therefore allowing it to be used to its full potential.

When the fabric is printed on, the quality of the color is high, with both vivid tones and pale tones being possible to print. Due to plain weave fabric being able to be used to make shirts or small items, it is an easy to use and easy to stitch fabric that is recommended for sewing beginners or people who want to try out sewing.

2． Double Gauze (100% cotton)

The light, soft and kind to skin fabric ‘Gauze’ is not only perfect for babies, but also adults with delicate skin. After the fabric has been rinsed in water, it becomes soft, giving a feeling of wearing air. Once you have worn this fabric once, you won’t be able to get rid of it.

Nunocoto Fabric’s Double Gauze is made by using a traditional Japanese bleaching method* that is good for both you and the environment. This, from the start, gives an airy and soft feeling as if it has already been washed.

3． Lawn (100% cotton)

Lawn is a high quality, thin, plain weave fabric. This fabric has the charm of being light and having the perfect amount of tension to it. The fabric is breathable, making it perfect for making cool tops. The fabric is made using tightly stitched thread leading to the fabric having a delicate finish. This makes it perfect for making drapes or gathers. It is possible to feel a firmness when strong colored designs are printed on to this fabric.

Note: The texture may become stiff when printing dark colored designs.

Tops, such as blouses, shirts and tunics
Dresses with many gathers

4．Cotton Linen (Viyella)

・Fabric Content: 75% cotton and 25% linen

Viyella is a twill fabric. Cotton Linen Viyella is made of 75% cotton and 25% linen, leading to a feeling of softness and an appropriate smoothness. The thickness of the fabric is normal (a little thin). The fabric is not as thin as broadcloth or Lawn so it can be used to make a skirt out of just one layer. The color after printing will become slightly pale.

Note:When dark, strong colors are printed on to the fabric, it is possible to feel a little hardness.

5. Twill (100% cotton)

・Fabric Content: 100% cotton

Twill is a classic twill fabric. This fabric is firm and thick but soft at the same time, which is one of the fabrics best features. The fabric’s thickness level is medium. With even just one layer of the fabric there is no see-through feeling, making it perfect for bottoms or a tucked skirt.

School goods, such as lesson or shoe bags
Tote bags
Kitchen goods, such as curtains, aprons and tablecloths
Bottoms, such as trousers or tucked skirts

6. Canvas(100% cotton)

・Fabric Content: 100% cotton

Even among canvas fabrics, thick fabrics are called sail cloth or canvas. Our shop’s canvas fabric is equivalent to about 9oz canvas fabric thickness. The fabric is quite strong and its high durability is one of its best features. The fabric is very thick yet has an appropriate amount of tension to it. If using a home sewing machine, a needle made for thick fabrics should be used to sew. Canvas is a fabric that has been densely woven, making it hard for water to penetrate it; this is another great feature of the fabric.
